Tina Ellsworth, Ph.D.
Dr. Tina M. Ellsworth ([email protected]) is a graduate of the Curriculum and Teaching Department at the University of Kansas earning a Ph.D. in 2017. She also holds an M.A. in History from the University of Central Missouri. Dr. Ellsworth is an Assistant Professor of Education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO where she teaches social studies methods courses, general course in curriculum and instruction, as well as graduate courses in curriculum and instruction. Her research interest focuses on pedagogical content knowledge for teaching history, and racial pedagogical content knowledge for social studies education. She has been published in Social Education, Social Studies and the Young Learner, The History Teacher, Theory and Research in Social Education, Journal of the Research Center for Educational Technology. Dr. Ellsworth is the NSSSA's 2019 Social Studies Leader of the Year, and she serves as a member of the National Council for the Social Studies Board of Directors. Dr. Ellsworth is a former middle and high school social studies teacher.
Scott M. Waring, Ph.D.
Dr. Scott M. Waring ([email protected]) is a Professor and the Program Coordinator for the Social Science Education Program at the University of Central Florida. He earned his B.S. and M.A. in Education from the University of South Florida and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in Social Studies Education, with a minor in Instructional Technology. He teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate level in social science methodology, research, and theory. While at the University of Central Florida, Dr. Waring has won the Award for Excellence in Research, the Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award, the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award, the Excellence in Academic Advising Award, and the Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising for the University of Central Florida, as well as the National Council for the Social Studies Outstanding Service Award and the Florida Council for the Social Studies Agnes Crabtree International Relations Award. He is the current Co-Chair for the Teacher Education and Professional Development Committee of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS), Chair of the Florida College and University Faculty Assembly (FLCUFA – the higher education research affiliate of the Florida Council for the Social Studies), and the Program Chair for the SOURCES Conference. Dr. Waring serves as the Editor for Social Studies and the Young Learner, Editor for Teaching with Primary Sources Journal, and Editor for Trends and Issues in Social Studies and the former Editor for for Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education – Social Studies and the Interdisciplinary Feature Editor for Social Studies Research and Practice. He is currently editing two textbooks to be jointly published by the National Council for the Social Studies and the Library of Congress and one to be published by Teachers College Press. He has served as a member of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) House of Delegates, on the Executive Board for the College and University Faculty Assembly (CUFA – the higher education research affiliate of NCSS), and as the Chair for the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education's (SITE) Social Studies Special Interest Group. He has over 200 conference and workshop presentations and has written or co-written grants totaling over $4 million, including a Teaching with Primary Sources grant from the Library of Congress, a Fulbright-Hays grant (Czech Republic), a Fulbright Specialist award (Bulgaria), a Fulbright Scholar award (Czech Republic), and three United States Department of Education Teaching American History grants. Dr. Waring has published three books (has three more under contract and in progress) and over forty journal articles and book chapters focusing on the teaching and learning of history, teaching with primary sources, and the utilization of technology in teaching.
